Foreign Investment in Catalonia Ramps Up
2015 has been the second best year since 1993, with a 58% year-over-year growth.
Following data from the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, foreign investment has reached a record 4,783.2 million Euros in 2015, making it the second best year since the historical series began back in 1993. These results were only exceeded in 2010, where Catalonia registered a record 4,900 million Euros worth foreign investment.
At the same time, Catalonia attracted 22% of the foreign investment received in Spain, which accounts for 21,724.3 million Euros, 11% more than 2014.
The manufacturing industry tops the foreign investment ranking, followed by the financial, insurance, wholesale and retail sectors. European Union investments account for more than two thirds of the total investment.
Furthermore , Catalonia's gross foreign investment, mainly in OECD countries, was worth 3,879.4 million Euros in 2015, a 2.6% less than 2014. Financial services and IT top the ranking.
