Employment Rate in Worker Cooperatives Grows by 4,6% and Becomes a Rising Trend

Over 2,000 members of cooperatives have entered the labor market in 2015. More than 43,000 people work in Catalan cooperatives.

Between 2010 and 2015, employment in the cooperative sector companies grew by 10%, following the Federation of Worker Cooperatives of Catalonia, which brings together, represents and leads over 3,000 worker cooperatives in Catalonia.

Compared to 2014, worker cooperatives grew their employment rate by 84% and their turnover by 76% in 2015. In global terms, worker cooperatives promote quality employment (81% of all contracts are indefinite) and gender equality (46% women).

Cooperatives' products and services are often associated to a higher quality and positive values such as confidence, commitment and proximity. 77% of the cooperatives created in 2015 were work cooperatives, a formula in which partners participate of the property, management and results, applicable to all economic sectors.
