Airport tops passenger record

Airport tops passenger record

Barcelona - El Prat Airport closed 2014 with a total of 37,559,044 passengers, marking a new record thanks to an increase of 6.7% travellers compared to 2013.

This is the first time Barcelona Airport handled 37 million passengers a year. These results are mainly due to an increase in travellers from the European Union, which grew by 10.5%. Passengers from outside the EU grew by 6.6%, whilst domestic traffic rose 1%.

Growing markets also included Asia  (an increase of 18.4%), the Middle East (14.8%) and Africa (13.8%), while only the Russian market saw falls.

Meanwhile, cargo shipping rose more than 102 tonnes. The main cargo connections from Barcelona are Germany, Qatar, the United States and the United Arab Emirates.

New Norwegian base at El Prat

Norwegian Air Shuttle has announced the launch in April of a new base of operations at Barcelona's Airport, from where start four new routes to northern Europe. This expansion will increase 40% from the current bid and will create a hundred jobs. To attract talent will have the support of Barcelona Activa.
