The UN chooses Barcelona as the location for its centre for innovation and advice on smart cities

The Centre for Public-Private Partnership in Sustainable Smart Cities will be located in the Smart City Campus cluster of the 22@ cluster¡.

The United Nations has chosen Barcelona as the location for the Centre for Public-Private Partnership in Sustainable Smart Cities (PPP for cities), which is aimed at providing a centre for research, innovation and advice for public administrations around the world.

The UN has set up this centre with the aim of developing projects and establishing best practices and standards in management and planning of smart cities  through collaboration between governments and the private sector.

It is planned that the centre will be located on the Smart City Campus, the cluster for smart cities promoted by Barcelona City Council. The establishment of this centre in the Catalan capital, consolidates Barcelona as a platform for research and development of new technologies in the field of smart cities.

The centre will be answerable to the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and has the support of Barcelona City Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya and IESE business school, which will house the centre until it can be moved to its final location in the 22@ district.
