NXP, new technological partner with Mobile World Capital Barcelona

The Dutch multinational, main world supplier of chip based identification technology, is moving an R+D+i centre to Barcelona to promote the 'mWallet' program to transform the mobile phone into a means of digital payment.

A new technological partner for the Mobile World Capital Barcelona project. The multinational NXP, main world supplier for chip identification technology, is creating a new knowledge centre specialised in the development of contactless technology.

The Dutch company has reached an agreement to join the world mobile capital project as a partner in the mWallet program, which groups together all the projects connected to the development of solutions and tools aimed at transforming the mobile phone into a means of digital payment.

GSMA, the association which groups together the main operators and manufacturers of mobile technologies, chose Barcelona as Mobile World Capital for the period of 2012-2018 last July, during the Mobile World Congress.

The project, promoted by GSMA, Barcelona City Council, Fira Barcelona, the Generalitat de Catalunya (Autonomous Government of Catalonia), and the Ministry of Industry, energy and Tourism, will turn Barcelona into a hub for mobile technology.
