The number of business incorporations in Barcelona on the rise

Barcelona transmits confidence to foreign investors and entrepreneurs. According to INE data, there were 6.1% more incorporations in the first six months this year compared to 2012.

The main economic indicators and international rankings confirm Barcelona's position as the country's economic engine and the centre of a business friendly environment both for entrepreneurs and foreign investors.

According to the National Statistics Institute (INE) from January to August 2013 Barcelona registered 5,025 new incorporated companies, 6.1% more than the same period last year. The capital employed in these companies doubles the amount of those from the first eight months of 2012, and the city of Barcelona represents 15% of all such investments made in Spain between January and August.

Deputy Mayor for Economy, Business and Employment at Barcelona City Council, SÚnia Recasens, claims the city's "high investment capacity" is one of the "key elements to build confidence in international markets and encourage economic and business activity".

Barcelona is holding steady in terms of its position as an attractive area for international investment . This is shown by the European Investment Monitor/Attractiveness Survey  by Ernst and Young (3rd position in terms of attracting European projects ) and KPMG's Global Investment Monitor (one of the world's top 10 destinations for foreign capital investment between 2008 and 2012).
