Catalonia gets second-most foreign investment in Europe

During the first half of 2013 foreign investment stood at 1,400 million euro, with 37 new projects and 4,095 new jobs, according to the Financial Times' FDI Intelligence report.

According to a ranking prepared by the Financial Times business newspaper on European regions that attracted most foreign investment in the first six months of 2013, Catalonia was placed in second position across all regions.

Foreign direct investments in the first half amounted to 1.4384 billion euro, second only to the UK's South East region with 3.3721 billion. This was thanks to 37 new projects carried out in Catalonia that created 4,095 jobs. The Community of Madrid was eighth on the list with 522.5 million euro and 26 projects that generated 1,077 new jobs.

As well, an Ernst & Young report shows Barcelona is the third-most attractive city in Europe for investing in, accounting for 42.33 % of all foreign investment projects in Spain in 2012.
