Barcelona and the US, more connected

Norwegian Airlines launches new weekly routes that will connect Barcelona with Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and Miami.

The Norwegian airline thus confirms its strategic bet on Barcelona-El Prat airport, consolidating the Catalan capital as a global business and tourism hub. From June 2017 on, Norwegian Airlines will connect Barcelona with New York, Miami and California, home of one of the biggest knowledge and technology centers in the world, cradle of the startup ecosystem. The rise on intercontinental flights will also boost international business landings in Barcelona and its surroundings, resulting in an increase of the region's competitiveness.

The agreement was possible thanks to the important task carried out by the Barcelona Air Route Development Committee (BARDC), Barcelona-El Prat airport and Barcelona City Council.

US leads Barcelona's inbound passengers ranking

The United States hold the first position in terms of Barcelona's airport inbound passengers. Every year more than one million people land in Barcelona, 73% which (almost 800,000) correspond the European connecting flights.

Among the top five direct destinations that connect Barcelona with the US, New York is the first destination in terms of absolute traffic, carrying more than 180,000 passengers in 2015.

Likewise, one of every seven passengers (13%) travel in business class, which results in higher profile visitors.
