Barcelona prepares to become the world capital of the electric car

From 17th to 20th November the Catalan capital will be hosting, for the first time, the International Symposium and Exhibition of Electric Vehicles. The 3rd EXPOelèctric Formula-e, a week earlier, will bring zero-emission vehicles closer to the public.

Thanks to its worldwide recognition and the leadership it exercises in Europe in the promotion and implementation of the electric vehicle, the city won the bid last year, after competing with other European capitals, to host the first International Symposium and Exhibition of Electric Vehicles (EVS27), the biggest event in the world focused on the promotion of sustainable mobility, a showcase of the latest technologies and products developed in this area.

For four days, from 17th to 20th November, the main agents of the entire value chain in the development of this type of vehicle -industry, authorities, universities and research centres – will meet in Barcelona to explore, share and promote the development of the sector.

In addition to the conference programme (which has already received the largest number of scientific articles in the history of the symposium with 541 proposals), the 27th edition of EVS will feature an exhibition area and the "Ride, Drive & Charge" space, where attendees can try out different electric, hybrid and fuel cell vehicles. This area will also have a specific circuit for two-wheeled vehicles.

Furthermore, the organizers have signed a collaboration agreement with EXPOelèctric Fórmula-e, so that this trade show, which promotes energy saving and efficient driving through recreational and dissemination activities, holds its third edition the weekend just before the symposium, on November 16th and 17th.

For the Deputy Mayor for Economy, Business and Employment of the City Hall, Sònia Recasens, "electric mobility opens the door to new business opportunities for the city and contributes to its international presence. According to Sònia Recasens, "the fact that Barcelona has been chosen for the first time as the European location for the most internationally important conference of this sector, demonstrates the commitment of the city with the implementation and development of electric mobility".
