Barcelona and Catalonia forge links with China

From 16th to 21st November, Barcelona City Council and the Generalitat are presenting key projects in new technologies and smart cities at the China Hi-Tech Fair. For the first time, four Catalan companies are accompanying the delegation.

Since last Saturday and until next Thursday November 21st, Barcelona and Catalonia are have been presenting  their economic and business potential at the 15th China Hi-Tech Fair (CHTF).

Through the brand Barcelona-CataloniaBarcelona City Council and the Generalitat de Catalunya (Autonomous Catalan Government) will present the projects that are being promoted in the field of new mobile technologies and smart cities, and that are turning Catalonia into one of the most dynamic European regions.

The program includes corporate and institutional networking meetings, and meetings of government agencies in Guangdong and Shenzhen to Invest in Shanghai to explore avenues of collaboration. Within the framework of the fair also organised a monographic session about the Mobile World Capital.

In addition, for the first time, the institutional participation in the event is open to the public-private collaboration. The delegation will include the participation of four Catalan companies in the ICT sector: La MagnéticaUrban ResiliencePolaritzador Ronser and Aplicat.

There is growing interest from Chinese companies in the Catalan region

The Infrastructure, geostrategic position, business-friendly environment, human capital, creativity, innovation and the excellent quality of life have all made Barcelona and Catalonia an attractive setting for the location of Asian companies, who see this region as a platform for access to the Mediterranean and a springboard for the Latin American market. 

Some recent examples include the settling of the multinational company IFC Logístics and the interest that around a hundred Chinese companies with a presence in the Mediterranean have shown in establishing their headquarters in Barcelona, according to data made public within the framework of the recent "China at Barcelona Summit".

The China Hi-Tech Fair is the most important event for the ICT sector in China. Every year it attracts over 500,000 entrepreneurs, professionals and institutions from some 50 countries to the city of Shenzen. It is a meeting point for entrepreneurs and investors who are looking for funding and successful projects.
