Barcelona Airport voted best airport in Southern Europe and recognised for its passenger growth

For the second year running Barcelona Airport has received an award as the best airport in Southern Europe. This prize is awarded by Skytrax as part of the World Airport Awards 2012.

For the second year running Barcelona Airport has received the award from Skytrax as best Southern European airport in the World Airport Awards 2012 as voted by passengers all over the world.

In a similar vein, the airport is classified in 9th position for facilities with an annual traffic of between 30 and 50 million passengers.

The prize collected by the airport director Sonia Corrochano at a reception in Vienna has been awarded as a result of surveys carried out on nearly 11 million passengers of over 100 nationalities.

The surveys evaluate passenger experience of 39 products and areas of service once they have completed the journey. Examples are: access, public transport, comfort, cleanliness, check-in, transits, security, signs and arrivals.

The World Airport Awards are based on a survey carried out by Skytrax on the analysis and comparison of quality of different airlines and airports. They are one of the major acknowledgments of quality for the airport industry on a worldwide level.

Higher passenger volume

Barcelona Airport has been awarded the Euro Annies 2012 prize as the European airport with the greatest passenger growth in the largest category – that of airports with over 10 million passengers. The increase in passengers has been 17.8%. The record of 34.4 million passengers registered in 2011 is the reason the digital publication Airline Network News & Analysis has made this award.
